What Augie saw as a spiritual war – NOT between him and anyone else – was his personal war – between his carnal nature and his spiritual nature. SO much so he gives up a life of material ease for a life living with the “lepers” of society livin’ like a MONK! All the while painting that celestial city of Pilgrim’s Progress, the City of God or whatever it is that’s TOTALLY OPPOSED to everything the Donnie and his maggots aspire to and I wonder how he’d’ve addressed the Trumpster and his Dumpsters? ESPECIALLY the false prophets for profit who should be praying FOR the people instead of preying ON the people, the charlatans, THE PAULA WHITES, THE DELUDED, LIKE THE FRANKLIN GRAHAM CRACKERS AND ALL THOSE HERETOFORE ONCE respected voices of “Christianity” I choke on the word.

Because They’re ALL the enemy now and even though I’m an atheist and there’s no way in Hell (ironic way to put it) I’d ever do what Augie did I do envy his ascetic life style and wish I too could find what he seems to have which is why I read his story, as abstruse as it sometimes is. I suppose it’s not necessarily what he says (although I do find it challenging), it’s the WAY he says it.
Like take Hemingway: it’s not what he says. It’s what he DOESN’T say. Fitzgerald’s just the opposite. And Salinger? And Roth? Samo samo. At least with Alexander, Portnoy that is – He’s sort’ve like Robin Williams and Jack Nicholson mixed together (Augie that is), but with a message. And even better, a message he backs up. Like Mother Teresa. Put your money where your mouth is. And in his case until you have no more money. A real St. Francis of Assisi. Like the rich young ruler who came to Christ and asked what must I do to enter the Kingdom of Heaven and Jesus calls his bluff and says sell all your possessions and give it to the poor and follow me.
Me? If I REALLY believed all that were true? Yeah… I’d do it. I just don’t believe it’s true.
Anyway, ZIONISM? By today’s understanding? Political. Pure opportunism. For the Trumpster. As for his followers? He’s the head lemming who’s either leading all the rest of the rats or being pushed by all the rest of the rats? Naw, he just knows a good con when he sees it.
